If ya ain't creatin... ya must be hatin...
The Science of The Ignorant Disposition
I felt myself surrounded by dumbness today! Working with so called at risk kids one would think I'd be referring to them, but not exactly! It is not the fault of these kids to have to go through the hardships of learning like they do.
We need to start paying more close attention to the needs of our children, they didn't ask to be here. Hang up that dam phone for a minute and get in tune with them, because they are suffering. They want your attention, they want you involved in their daily journeys. Stop sending them out of your homes telling them they are nothing, and planting in them seeds will never be fertilized. Because the field workers like myself and others cannot always chop through the weeds that you fertilize with guilt, despair, lack of learning, no hope, ignorance, attitudes, etc.
That child who struggles to make them grades he's never seen before in life that rushes home through direct traffic and neighborhood distractions to quickly get home and show his momma that report card only to be greeted with, "Cant you see I'm on the dam phone" and sadly seeks refuge to a safe place to hide his feelings. Thats sad, and then we lose them and they cant focus anymore.
When that lil toddler wants to journey through the new environment of your home. Instead of picking them up and halting them from their journey to observe new objects, get you lazy butts up and walk with them to let them explore. Because you are halting their growth every time you pick them up and turn them away.
Only we can break this cycle, and if we are more involved in our childrens learning we all benefit from it. And they joy it brings to their faces knowing that people care outside of the school environment matters...

So what's wrong with bein a clown if that's what they want to be? Don't get mad at the clowns b'cuz people keep comin to you lookin for one... just get in where you fit in...
I feel both of yall...
But you don't even have to take them to Disney World. You should, but a trip to the library means just as much to them. The Franklin Institute and the Please Touch Museum have recently updated and upgraded their facilities. Take them to the aquarium, a farm, the park, drive to NYC and let them see the Empire State Building, Statue of Liberty, the Moorish Castle in Manhattan... go to DC and show them those monuments and tell them what they mean, and if you can't, then take the tour and yall can learn together.. ya dig.
That's for people who will use the excuse that Disney World is too far away and cost too much.
More important than talkin to them is LISTENING to them. Don't be a dictator be a facilitator... ya dig. You have to be willing to listen and learn. Many times parents try to live vicariously through their children, trying to make for their lost time. If you were an athlete and played all the sports, and you see a natural athlete in your child, by all means keep your child active and athletic. However, if the child develops an interest in, let's say chemistry, then you better damn well feed that interest. You may have been one of those quintessential athletes... you know... you paid jokers to do your chemistry homework. I know, it's an utter shock that your son or daughter would be even remotely interested in that. But, you paid then so pay now sucka! Take yo ass to Barnes & Noble, go online or wherever and buy that child some chemistry books, cd's, dvd's and, of course, a chemistry set! Don't hate... participate.
It may just be a phase. You never know, but if you kill that dream you will kill another. Before you know it, when he finally decides he wants to be the next Kobe Bryant, he doesn't even tell you because he already feels you gone hate on him. Shit... you been hatin on him since he wanted that chemistry set!
Case in point... my son has loved horses since pimpin been pimpin. He used to collect model horses and all types of things pertaining to horses, especially books. He still has some of the books on his shelf to this day. He had a habit of combing or brushing the horses' hair and tails. Now, I didn't understand it back then and saw it as female behavior, so I would get on him for it. My son has always been advanced but it never dawned on me in this situation until years later. In those books he was reading, a great habit fostered by his mom, he learned how to groom horses and was practicing on his models in preparation of one day having his own. Talk about feelin stupid... but it ain't never over. That year, in addition to my tradition of giving whatever he asks for on his birthday, I took him to ride a real horse. The first thing this dude does when he gets on the horse is... you guessed it!... fixed the hair. For me to see him do it for an actual horse made everything clear. That was his first ever being on a horse and the owner said the horse was completely comfortable with him, which struck her as odd. I didn't even have to leave out of the county I was living in to make that happen.
Now days, his love has expanded to all animals and he wants to be a veterinarian. I have learned more about animals in the past few years than I have ever cared to in my life. But, if he into it, I gotta learn something about it, or we won't have anything to talk about.

Spoken Like A True Fatha!
100% True! Kids Need (PROPER) Guidance! We need to sit dinner at the dinner table and get into our families again. Everybody is in a rush to go no where and is missing out on the true journey of life! Kids need exposure to expand their thinking capacity and vision beyond what they see on a everyday basis. I would never believe I can accomplish anything if I seen the same ol'shit everyday neither! Thats where kids get stuck and tv, computers, phones, and all outside sources become the parent of our child. When they reach 21 and haven't matured the parent is like what the fcuk happened to my child. Umm Duh you told that lil fcuker to get out my face, im on the phone, go outside and play, play the video game and wonder why your child has went astray because thats what was installed into the child's "Mental Hard drive" (Avoidance at 1,000GB) LMAO!
Anyway I definitly feel and understand where you coming from on this one Fatha Ramzee, you being a teacher see the destruction of our youth everyday.
Only thing I can say to the parents is GET The FCUK Off The Phone & take your kid to Disney World or on some kind of getaway. Don't just tell them they can be anything they want SHOW them how they can be anything they want. And when the lil niga or nigares (lol) get older and wanna be a clown in the circus don't get mad because you told they azz the could be anything they wanted when they were young and they believed you. Moral to the story - "Tell By Showing"
